but the latest driver has bug fixes for nero. that doesn't make sense. it's one thing to have it on adaptec's site, but it doesn't make sense to put a dll file here.

@lord -to start with you have felt the need to explain yourself to yours truly as your comments testify - in addition anyone who feels they are a 'power user' needs to get a grip on life & is delusional - what differentiates a ␘power user␙ from a mere human such as myself apart such a person having an inherent mental aberration?you did mention the '$' in your review so yes money was a part of it, i feel the stardock gizmo is the best replacement there is but still can't work out why ms removed the ability for users ('power' or normal) to use the start menu maybe on initial install but that's another story.edit: ignore the 'power user' part of my review as lord has edited his/hers ~

i recently purchased a nifty hp pavilion dm1 notebook. it came with windows 7 64 bit and it was doing just fine. then, a few days ago i made a very stupid move and downloaded the windows 8 pre-release evaluation. what i didn't know was that once downloaded win 8 can't be removed. i tried to bring it back to factory settings, but windows 8 wiped that out, as well as all other hp programs that came with the note book. as i write, my bluetooth still doesn't work.i had to find hp drivers for my notebook to try and bring back to standard. some of them work and some don't. since my hp notebook doesn't come with a dvd optical drive i had to order one and also had to order a recovery disk from hp. as soon as these items arrive, i'll be nuking win 8 and get back to using win 7, which when you don't have it, one knows how good it was in for win 8, it has some interesting do-dads. the start screen looks like my wife's lumia and quite frankly it sucks. to me it's gimicky and a bit childish. it gets in the way of doing what you want to do do with the computer. i could go on, but i've said enough. in short, i won't be shelling out any shekels for win 8, as it already has cost me a considerable amount of money attempting to get my new notebook back to its original condition. and yes, i was stupid.

finally found a free program that allows me to record basically everything i can hear. i've tried many, and something was wrong with all of them. this one can grab sound from mp3's, movies, youtube, wav, cd, or practically anything else you are playing.fsr has an ok gui, not real pretty (ymmv) but easy to use. functions are basic and intuitive. help file is informative and easy to use.i don't like the way the developer included the commercial version files in the install folder. it basically makes the program install over 2x larger than it needs to be. the good news is, you can delete it. i don't like the way it needs and installs a mfc71.dll (iirc) in the wiindows folder, just like the bad old days. if it weren't for that, i think it could be a portable program. 1 point off because the free version also includes the commercial version in the install folder, 1 point off because of the mfc nonsense, but i still recommend the program.
